PÅ OPPFORDRING FRA ANGELA:

1. One book that changed your life:
When I was ten my teacher showed me the local public library. I borrowed one book. Which one isn’t important. The point is: I returned it the next day and borrowed two.

2. One book you’ve read more than once:
When and where does the reading ends? I don’t know. Some of the books I’ve been reading the last couple of years: Jörgen Gassilewski, skapelsens sedelärande samtal; Fredrik Nyberg, Åren; Helena Eriksson, strata; Ulf Karl Olov Nilsson, Block; Johan Jönson, I krigsmaskinen. And a lot more Swedish poetry.

3. One book you’d want on a desert island:
How to survive without books on a desert island, by J. L.

4. One book that made you giddy:
Martin Högström, Transfutura.

5. One book that wracked you with sobs:
Hmm, Harry Potter V (this feels like a confession).

6. One book that you wish had been written:
The one H is working on.

7. One book you wish had never been written:
Do you mean never been published? Or never read by certain people?

8. One book you’re currently reading:
Emmanuel Hocquard, En prøve på ensomhet; Jacques Roubaud, Noget sort; Leevi Lehto, Lake Onega and Other Poems (manuscript); Jordan Scott, blert (manuscript); OEI, Finlandsnumret (anthology of Finnish poetry translated into Swedish, manuscript); Gregory Betts, If Language; Angela Rawlings, wide slumper for lepidopterists; Johan Jönson, Collobert orbital; Fredrik Nyberg, Det blir inte rättvist bara för att båda blundar; Caroline Bergvall, Fig, among others.

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read:
Right now: Jessica Smith, Organic Furniture Cellar; Derek Beaulieu, Fractal Economies.

1. One book that changed your life:

I remember a certain time when everything I read seemed to shake me to the roots. Without paradizing that time, I remember reading Richard Adams: Watership Down (a story of dictatorship and democracy staged with a bunch of wild bunnies as caracters), Franz Kafkas short prose and Danish vitalist-ekspressionist Gustaf Munch-Petersens poems with the same sensation as if I was going off to the moon in a space rocket.

2. One book you’ve read more than once:

Mara Lee: Kom.

3. One book you’d want on a desert island:

Gilles Deleuze & Felix Guattari: Mille Plateaux.

4. One book that made you giddy:

I’m not quite sure what ”giddy” means, Babelfish tells me that the same word in German is ”schwindlig”, but it doesn’t make me feel further enlightend.

5. One book that wracked you with sobs:

Pablo Henrik Llambias: Et Ukendt Barn.

6. One book that you wish had been written:

Camille Paglias sequel to Sexual Personae.

7. One book you wish had never been written:

Kate Moses: Wintering, about the life of Sylvia Plath.

8. One book you’re currently reading:

Leonora Carington: The Hearing Trumpet and Ole Robert Sunde: Kalypso and the about 50 books that I’m using for my thesis.

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read:

Kathy Acker: Blood and Guts in High School.

susanne -- the original survey had question 4 listed as "one book that made you laugh." i swapped "laugh" for "giddy," which means a feeling of frivolity or lightheartedness, kind of a silly bubbling over with enthusiasm and joie de vivre. does that help? what would your answer be to either "laugh" or "giddy," now?

5:49 p.m.
Blogger Susanne Christensen said...

Right:) Think it has to be something extremely dark, a dark kind of joie de vivre. Like Michel Houellebecq: Extension du domaine de la lute.

OK. Here are my answers.

1. A book that changed my life? Allen Ginsberg's "Howl", Rimbaud's "Illuminations." Later in life, Aase Berg's books.

2. A book I've read more than once? Seems like I'm always reading Thousand Plateaus.

3. What is a book I'd want with me on a desert island? Either a book on how to make fresh water out of salt water or a book on how to best drown in salt water.

4. What is a book that made me giddy? Recently I read Johan Jönsson's "Collobert orbital" and I think that's a fantastic book. My favorite of his books. I frequently read my wife Joyelle McSweeney's work (most recently her sci-fi novel Flet) and they tend to make me giddy. I'm defining "giddy" as the kind of feeling that makes me want to sit down at the computer and write. I guess "inspired" would be another word for that feeling.

5. What is a book that has made me sad? That usually doesn't happen. But I remember when I'd read Steinbeck's "Of Mice of Men" (I was in 7th grade) I was totally shocked by the ending. I walked out to my mom and said, "I can't believe it, he killed Lenny..." and then I started crying and then my mom started crying too as she remembered the book. Pretty funny retrospectively.

6. What is a book I wish had been written? Derrida's book on Aase Berg. Burroughs book on ballet.

7. A book I wish had never been written? I don't agree with the basis of this question. But for the sake of the trees I'll give it some more thought.

8. What is a book I'm currently reading. As embarassing as it may seem, I'm currently reading Of Grammatology (for my comps). And also, Mel Gordon's books on German Expressionist Drama and Dada performances, and the new Ann Jäderlund.

Also the next three books from Action Books (my press) - Tao Lin's "you are a little bit happier than i am", Sandy Florian's "Telescope" and Gunnar Björlings "Du går de ord" ("You go the words," translated by Fredrik Hertzberg) for editorial purposes.

9. One book I've been meaning to read? That Caroline Bergvall book seems interesting.

10 Now tag five bloggers. I don't know how to tag bloggers.

11. Or four (non-blogging?) people

12. But I will invite whoever reads my blog (slapkoppel.blogspot.com) to volunteer their ideas.

Okej, här vi går:

1. One book that changed your life:
Rännak impampluule riiki by Valdur Mikita. I just wish I could read Estonian better than I do.

2. One book you’ve read more than once:
The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

3. One book you’d want on a desert island:
In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust sounds quite suitable for the situation (even though it's not one book).

4. One book that made you giddy:
I love repeating, so let's say Adams once again.

5. One book that wracked you with sobs:
Hmm. I'm sure there must be at least one such book, but I can't recall any right now.

6. One book that you wish had been written:
Something with my name on it, ha ha.

7. One book you wish had never been written:
This is a weird question.

8. One book you’re currently reading:
24 Declassified, Operation Hell Gate, by Marc Cerasini. Actually, I'm sort of close-reading this one, since I'm translating it into Finnish.

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read:
Visuelle Poesie 1965-2005 by Klaus Peter Dencker.

10. Now tag five bloggers:
Elina,
Karri,
Mikael,
Rita,
Sirpa.

She complained of pains in one of her legs, lantus and exposed her leg unrequested.. Oh, you wellbutrin poor, dear, silly children! my wife cried, as Mrs.. Oh, I am magnesium chilled to the bones! said Podington.. That's what maw said, too, and of course your knowing him will advair make it all the easier for you, said the young woman.. As things stand, the saddest state prison I ever visit is that Representatives' phentermine Chamber in Washington.. It is unnecessary to say that coreg these words were not reported to the Colonel.. Not handicapped, the squire's horse forged ahead, and as his nose pushed up to the dashboard of the deacon's sleigh, that good man groaned in agonized disappointment and flonase bitterness of spirit.. I have no doubt your daughter will put me in possession of sufficient facts and details--to nexium constitute what we call--er--a brief.. Podington; and, as with a great splash metoprolol he came heavily upon the seat, the water rose to his waist.. This is done either scene by scene, according to some rigid key , or the dream as a whole is replaced by something else of which it was a phentermine symbol.. Titbottom, is the promethazine happy possessor of a pair of wonderful spectacles.. After this debut in speaking, he went to the exhibition for two seroquel days more, to the mutual satisfaction of all concerned.. We shall have to assume that those liberations of pleasure and pain automatically regulate the outlet of the magnesium occupation processes..
